Scottish
Executive
The
Scottish Executive is the devolved government for Scotland
and is responsible for the day to day issues such as health,
education and rural affairs that concern the people of Scotland.
Sustainable
Action Grants
The Sustainable
Action Fund,
set up by the Scottish Executive, provides funding for Sustainable
development in Scotland. £250,000 has been made available
for 3-year Sustainable Action Grant projects starting in 2006-07.
Primarily to help projects which are environmentally friendly
and economically sound.
What is
the funding for?
For the year 2006 - 2007 money is available to support
national and regional projects which further the aims of,
one or more of the following:
1. Sustainable
consumption and production: achieving more with less.
This includes reducing the inefficient use of resources, looking
at the impact of products and materials across their whole
lifecycle and encouraging people to think about the social
and environmental consequences of their purchasing choices;
2. Climate
change and energy: securing a profound change in
the way we generate and use energy, and reducing greenhouse
gas emissions;
3. Natural
resource protection and environmental enhancement:
protecting our natural resources, building a better understanding
of environmental limits, and improving the quality of the
environment;
4. Sustainable
communities: creating communities that embody the
principles of sustainable development locally, improving the
quality of life of individuals and communities, securing environmental
justice for those who suffer the worst local environments;
5. Learning
for sustainable development: ensuring people have
the knowledge, awareness and skills to play their part in
contributing towards any of the objectives above, whether
through the formal education system, opportunities for lifelong
learning, supporting citizen's involvement in sustainable
decision-making, or finding ways of communicating sustainable
development messages clearly and compellingly.
Proposed projects
should be designed to spread good practice, have clear objectives
and measurable outputs, and avoid duplicating existing work
although may build upon and extend such work. Grants will
be offered to projects with a proposed duration of 1 - 3 years.
How much
money is available?
The
maximum grant size will be £40,000 per year, but would
consider exceptions if the benefits of a particular application
merited it. There will be approximately £250,000 available
in 2006 - 2007, for a 3 year project.
Who can
apply?
National
or regional organisations covering areas no smaller than a
Local Authority area. These organisations must be properly
constituted.
When to
apply
Information on whether
the scheme will continue in 2007 will be given as soon as
available.
