The Co-Operative
Group is committed to supporting self-help groups in the local
communities where they trade.
Community
Fund,
(otherwise
know as the Community Dividend Fund)
This scheme
relies on the generosity of Dividend Cardholders who donate
the “odd-pence” from their twice a year Dividend
payment. Since its launch in 1998, the scheme has raised more
than £3.2 million, helping more than 800 local community
groups.
What is
the funding for?
The Co-Operative group support organisations who
are carrying out projects for the benefit of the local community
and which cover one of the three following
areas:
- Relieving
poverty – this includes any project that
aims to improve conditions for those less fortunate,
such as helping the residents of a particular housing
estate or helping people who are suffering any form
of ill health.
- Improving
education – this includes any project
that aims to provide education in the community,
such as nurseries, youth centres and so on.
- Other
purposes benefiting the community –
this includes projects that benefit the
wider community, such as environmental
projects, protecting heritage sites or promoting
racial harmony.
