Finding
sources of finance is a crucial part of any project. It can
also be one of the most difficult, as there are so many places
to look and it can all become very time consuming. Finance
can come in different forms:
1 . Loans – funds made available over
a set period. Main load has to be repaid as well as loan interest.
2 . Equity investment – capital invested
in a business in return for a share of ownership. In the Third
Sector this is most commonly through community shares
3 . Bonds – loan in the form of a legal
agreement btw the organisation tht issues it and the bondholder.
But been rarely used in the 3rd Sector except in some large
Housing Associations.
4 . Patient Capital - The name that has become
associated with loan and grant combinations which take a long
term view of the development of community based organisations
and their activities.
5. Grants, gifts and donations – non-
returnable funds provided for projects usually first stop
for groups – increasingly hard to finance big projects
entirely on grant funding forcing groups to seek alternative
sources of funding
It would be virtually impossible to list every available source
of grant funding, but we have compiled here a comprehensive
and up to date list of funding sources that we feel are the
most relevant to community groups developing projects with
economic, social or envirnomental benefit.
Each source
of grant aid is listed in an easy to read format, setting
the information out under the following headings:
- What
is the funding for?
- How
much money is available?
- Who
can apply?
- When
to apply
- How
to apply
Please
be aware that most funders change their application criteria
from time to time so it is strongly advised that you contact
them directly to ensure that the conditions listed here are
still applicable, before taking your application any further.
