The Family Fund

What is the funding for?
The Family Fund is the largest independent grant making organisation helping families in the UK caring for severely disabled or seriously ill children. Help is given in the form of grants make life easier and more enjoyable for the disabled child and their family, such as washing machines, driving lessons, hospital visiting costs, computers and holidays.

How much money is available?
The value of the grant depends on the items requested, family circumstances and the funding they have available.

They consider all applications individually on the basis of the information provided.

Who can apply?
If you live in Scotland, you can apply if you can say Yes to all of the following:

* You are the parent or carer of a severely disabled child aged 16 or under
* Your household’s earned income before tax, excluding any overtime, is less than £23,000 per year OR your income is entirely from benefits
* You have less than £18,000 in savings
* You have permanent residency in the UK and have lived in the UK for six months

They cannot help children and young people in local authority care, including those living with relatives or foster carers.

How to apply
Applications for a grant should be made by the parent or carer of the disabled child or children. This should be the person who has parental responsibility for the child and with whom the child lives.

Applications should be made per family, so if you are making an application on behalf of more than one severely disabled child, include information on all the children you wish the Fund to consider on the one application form at the same time.
