Children’s Fund
Challenger
Children’s Fund is a Scottish based charity established
by Trust Deed in 1978 for providing “aids to, and the
maintenance clothing, education, outfit In life or otherwise
for the general benefit and well being” of any disabled
person under the age of 18.
What
is the funding for?
Anything that is not provided by statutory sources, e.g. washing
machine, lycra suits, clothing. Grants cannot be made retrospectively.
For holidays, if it is essential that a child must be accompanied,
consideration will be given to the cost. Grants cannot be
made retrospectively to any of the above.
How
much money is available?
Grants to individuals are normally in the order of £500,
although larger amounts will be considered for other purposes
such as the purchase of specialised equipment which will make
a real difference to the child’s life.
Who
can apply?
Funds are available for physically disabled children throughout
Scotland who are long-term and significantly disabled through
a physical impairment of the musclo-skeletal, neurological
or cardio-respiratory system of the body.Applications must
be sponsored by a Social Worker, GP, Health Visitor, District
Nurse or Therapist.
When
to apply
Applications can be made at any time and are usually considered
every six weeks.
