Lane Foundation
The Foundation
was established in 1966 by the late Sir Allen Lane, founder
of Penguin books. It is a charitable trust which makes small
grants in the U.K.
What
is the funding for?
It wishes to fund work which will make a lasting difference
to people’s lives, will reduce isolation, stigma and
discrimination and that encourages or enables unpopular groups
to share in community life. The Foundation is particularly
interested in unusual, innovative projects. Some examples
of the kind of activities which may be suitable for funding:
• Provision of advice or information
• Befriending or mentoring
• Work aimed at combating discrimination
• Work developing practical alternatives to violence
The Foundation is interested in work that benefits people
in the following groups:
• Asylum seekers and refugees
• Gay, lesbian and bi-sexual people
• Offenders and ex-offenders
How
much money is available?
Grants are relatively small. Single, one off grants range
from £500 to £15,000. Grants repeated for more
than one year vary from about £500 per annum up to £5,000
per annum for a maximum of three years.
Who
can apply?
Any voluntary not-for-profit organisations which are small.
They will not fund individuals.
