Challenge
Funds (the above and the Forestry for People) are administered
by Forestry Commission Scotland under the Scotland Rural
Development Programme (SRDP). They contribute to the achievement
of SRDP priority outcomes, the delivery of the Scottish Forestry
Strategy targets, and Scottish Government’s national
and regional priorities.
What
is the funding for?
TheWoodlands In and Around Towns Challenge Fund is targeted
at communities with a population of more than 2,000. It is
aimed at improving existing areas of woodland, bringing them
into sustainable management by carrying out an agreed programme
of work. The aim is to regenerate the woodland environment
close to centres of population and improve the quality of
life for people living and working there.
Examples
of the work which
could be supported include silvicultural work to improve the
condition of the woodland and the construction of new or improved
recreation facilities, including new and upgraded paths

much money is available?
No minimum/maximum is indicated
Who
can apply?
Owners or occupiers of existing woodland greater than 1ha
in size
within 1km of a settlement of at least 2000 people or more
can
apply for theWoodlands In and Around Towns Challenge Fund.
The
National Forest Estate is not eligible to receive grants under
this fund.

By 30th September 2009
How
to apply
Because this Fund is part of the SRDP programme you will need
to have a Business Reference Number (BRN) before you
submit an application and the relevant woodland area should
be
registered on the IACS system.
