Communities Fund
Forward Scotland
administers the application, assessment and distribution of
grants on behalf of Viridor Credits, using funds gathered
by landfill operator Viridor Waste Management.
What
is the funding for?
This scheme offers grants under the Landfill Communities Fund
(LCF) for community projects in the vicinity of Viridor Waste
Management's landfill sites in Scotland ie. East Lothian extending
to Edinburgh and areas of the Scottish Borders, and more recently
North and South Lanarkshire as well. The Landfill Communities
Fund was established to help mitigate the effects of landfill
upon local communities. It encourages partnerships between
landfill operators, their local communities and the voluntary
and public sectors. The partnership approach taken by Forward
Scotland spans the public, private and community sectors.
This enables funds to be disbursed to meet existing local
priorities, as well as national initiatives to reduce long-term
unemployment and promote social inclusion, within the scope
of the prescribed purposes of the Landfill Tax legislation.
