Travel Grants
There is a real
therapeutic value to be found in the outdoors for those suffering
from, for example, mental illness, but many charitable groups
face practical problems in getting started. Scottish Natural
Heritage has provided a grant, managed by the Buchan Countryside
Group, to help Community and Voluntary groups get their clients
to places like nature reserves where somebody can provide
an introduction to the outdoors.
With the confidence that comes from a “taster”
like this, many groups and individuals go on to explore and
enjoy the outdoors on their own door step.
The grant provides
up to half the cost of travel (e.g. bus hire) to help Community
and Voluntary groups in Aberdeenshire, Aberdeen City and Moray,
get their clients to a local site where there are facilities
and/or opportunities for enjoying the natural heritage.
This grant is explicitly
targeted at groups which support people with special needs
or groups which are frequently excluded from enjoying the
natural heritage and the outdoors because of factors of social
or economic exclusion. As such, it aims to support the Scottish
government’s aspiration for a greener, fairer and healthier
Scotland.
Many suitable sites
will have Ranger services or other staff who can help you
enjoy your visit by letting you know more about the site and
what you can see or do there. If you know someone else (such
as a local expert) who can provide such a role, that is also
acceptable. The award of a grant is dependent on your having
a suitably knowledgeable person to welcome/lead your group
on the site.
What is
the funding for?
The
grant provides up to half the cost of travel (e.g. bus hire)

heritage.
