Heritage Grants (HLF)

This grant is part of the Heritage Lottery Fund programme. Full details of other programmes can be found on the Heritage Lottery Page.

Heritage Grants is their main grants programme offering grants of more than £50,000 for projects that relate to the national, regional or local heritage of the UK. They have three main aims which relate to learning, conservation and participation.

What is the funding for?

To receive a grant your project must:
help people learn about their own and other people's heritage plus it must conserve the UK's diverse heritage for present and future generations to experience and enjoy and/or help more people, and a wider range of people, to take an active part in and make decisions about heritage.

Heritage includes many different things from the past that we value and want to pass on to future generations, from people's memories and experiences to historic buildings and natural habitats.

How much money is available?

Applications must be for more than £50,000

Who can apply?

Applications can be from single organisations and partnerships. They give priority to not-for-profit organisations and partnerships. If private owners are involved they expect the public benefit to be greater than any private gain.

When to apply?

There are no deadlines for applications under £5million. You can apply at any time.

How to apply

If you believe that your project meets the criteria for this grant, complete and submit the pre-application form online to receive further help on applying for a grant.

They strongly recommend that you read the application introduction and help notes before sending in a preapplication enquiry.
