Climate
Challenge Fund
The Climate
Challenge Fund, established by the Scottish Govt in 2008,
gives communities, through individual community groups and
community planning partners, the ability to implement actions
to reduce their carbon emissions.
The fund is
administered
by Keep Scotland Beautiful, supports communities to tackle
climate change by reducing their carbon emissions and increasing
their capacity to take action.
A community
group must be the lead player in a project, and projects must
include a measurable and significant reduction in carbon emissions,
with a positive lasting legacy beyond the three years of the
funding programme.
What
is the funding for?
The Climate Challenge Fund helps communities to put their
own solutions for significant reduction of carbon emissions
into action. Priority will be given to ideas that help strengthen
local economies, bring all members of a community together
and generally make your local community a greener, happier
place to live in.
The type of projects they are looking for:
* The
focus is on significant carbon reduction but with a wider
environmental, social and economic benefit.
* Should be community based and with decision-making kept
at the heart of the community.
* Take a long-term view, which means improving the quality
of life for present and future generations.
How
much money is available?
There is no set amount of funding, only a maximum award of
£1 million. If your project is larger than £1
million and has a particularly high potential carbon saving
and fulfils the other fund criteria we may still consider
it.
Who
can apply?
The Climate Challenge Fund is aimed at the community sector
for example community groups, schools, and not-for-profit
organisations, and these groups may also be supported by NGOs,
voluntary sector or local government partners.
To apply
you must be:
* Based
in Scotland,
* Legally constituted,
* Not-for-profit distributing community groups,
* From the community sector and not householders or individuals.
Your project
must have a community focus so naturally the people affected
by the project should be involved in its development and delivery.
The grant
scheme specifically requires that the community be the lead
player in any partnership and that the community must be at
the heart of all decision making.
A community
may be a group who have an interest in common, are living
in the same local area or are a legally constituted group.
