Supporting 21st Century Life

This is one strand of the Investing in Communities programme relaunched on June 30 2010 and will run until June 30 2015. The other strands are Growing Community Assets and Life Transitions.

Supporting 21st Century Life wants to fund projects that build stronger families and stronger communities. It aims to improve the quality of family life by helping families most in need to deal with the challenges of family life, intervening early to prevent poverty and disadvantage and give children a better chance in life.

What is the funding for?

They will fund projects that bring people together, create understanding, help people think about their future and reduce isolation. They expect to fund a wide range of activities and services such as parenting and family support as well as advice and tailored support to help people access services. Projects can encourage mentoring, befriending and peer support. They can also support activities, such as play, volunteering and outdoor experiences.

They have identified five challenges of family life they want to fund and five outcomes, or long term changes, they want to achieve through Supporting 21st Century Life. Full details of these are available in the Guidance Notes.

How much money is available?
Between £10,000 and £1 million.

Eligible organisations include voluntary and community organisations, local authorities, community councils, social enterprises and private companies (provided their grants do not contribute to the profits they distribute).
